Beginners course – 2026

Would you like to learn how to keep bees in your garden or elsewhere? Beverley Beekeepers hold courses to teach you do just this.

This course combines a theoretical and practical programme over nine weeks.By the end of the course you should be in a great place to begin your own beekeeping journey.

The theory part of the programme will be delivered via Zoom over nine weeks on a Tuesday night. These sessions will prepare you for the practical part of the course which takes place over six Thursday evenings.

Dates and times:

  • theory sessions – Tuesday 7-8:30 p.m. via Zoom. May 19th – July 14th
  • practical sessions – Thursday 7-8:30 p.m. Beverley apiary. June 4th – 9 July

For the pactical course full protective clothing will be provided. The sessions will run at the association’s apiary in Beverley.

The cost for this course will be £200. There is also a requirement that you join the association as a full member in order to receive the insurance provided as well as other benefits. You can find an application form here. You must fill in a membership form, either hand-written or typed, sign it, and then either post, or scan and e-mail it, to our Membership Secretary.  Postal address is on the membership form.  Email address is – membership@beverleybeekeepers.co.uk post to Chris Powney, 1 Railway Cottages, Common Lane, Welton, BROUGH. HU15 1PJ. Payment detasils are explained on the form. Without membership/insurance we cannot allow you to handle bees and equipment. Thee cost of membership runs October to September and you rerceive the BBKA magazine BBKA News each month, so it is worth joining early to get the most benefit from the membership period. If you have bees or are planning to get some in the spring we would say membership is essential as you will also get Bee Disease Insurance.

Please note that we strive to provide the practical sessions as advertised. We are, however, at the mercy of the weather. Where we need to cancel a session we will attempt to reschedule it but we cannot guarantee that the replacement session will be on a Thursday evening.
