Christmas Honey, Wax and Products of the Hive Competition

1. Two matching jars of Light or Medium honey.
2. Two matching jars of Soft Set or Naturally Granulated honey
3. Two matching jars of honey displayed ‘As for Sale’
4. Two matching beeswax candles, prepared by moulding or dipping with wax from your own
bees.
5. One jar of honey (12 oz or 1 lb jar) entered by a novice. A novice being a member who has
not previously won a 1st prize at a Beverley Beekeepers’ Honey Show
6. A plain honey cake. Recipe overleaf. To be displayed in a clear plastic bag on a paper plate both of which can be provided.
7. A display of 3 items, a selection of hive and honey products.

Notes

1. The honey jars, with the exception of class 3, will only have labels supplied by the show sec.
2. The jars “as for sale” should be labelled with the sellers’ / producers own label.
3. The items in class 7 can, for example, be honey, moulded wax or dipped candle, honey soap,
wax wrap, polish, lip balm, mead or other honey drink etc., etc. Literally any product that contains
either honey, wax, or other hive product.
4. We will accept any shape of jar in all classes, in weights of 300g and above
5. The honey used in the baking can be from any source and need not be your own honey.

Plain Honey Cake Recipe

8oz Self Raising flour, 4oz unsalted butter, 8oz honey, 2 medium eggs, pinch of salt.

1. Cream butter and honey together.
2. Beat the eggs, add them alternatively with the flour and salt to the butter and honey. Add a little
milk if required.
3. Bake in a lined deep tin of 6 1/2” to 7 1/2” round tin for about 1 1/4 hours at 160 deg C or gas
mark 3.
