Introduction to Beekeeping
Course for Beginners 2007
Welcome
to Beverley Beekeepers’ Introduction to Beekeeping Course.
The course will be held at Beverley Parks on Tuesday
evenings from 18.30 to 20.30 starting on 29/05/07 for six
weeks until 03/07/06.
We are an active association of people who enjoy our shared
interest. Members come in all shapes and sizes, from all
age groups and from a wide variety of occupations. Some of
us know a lot about beekeeping. Some of us have just
started the hobby and some of us are still apprentices
despite many years as apiarists. We all help each other to
care for our bees and produce good quality honey and
beeswax products.
Beekeeping is a wonderful hobby that allows you to keep
learning new things. It’s also wonderful in that no two
beekeepers ever agree on the best way of doing something;
and the bees have their own ideas about what should be
happening. Beekeeping would be easier, but more boring, if
the bees learned to read the books written about them.
The aim of this course is to give you an insight into the
craft of beekeeping to enable you to decide whether this
fascinating hobby is for you. Each evening you will have
the opportunity to see colonies of honey bees examined and
learn what is involved in keeping a hive of honey bees. A
forum will follow at which time you will be able to quiz
the course tutors on all aspects of beekeeping.
Protective clothing is provided but we ask that you bring a
pair of Wellington boots, or similar. If you wear reading
glasses, these will be necessary to see bees’ eggs.
Beekeeping requires fine weather and thus if we are
confronted with bad weather (cold, wet or very windy) we
may have to cancel the evening. Please telephone me if you
are in doubt as to whether it is fit.
