Beehives
The beehive everybody in Britain associates with beekeeping
is the WBC (named after a famous BBKA member - William
Broughton Carr). This double walled traditional English WBC
hive is popular with some members. The WBC is well
insulated and bees winter well in it, but it is cumbersome
for migratory beekeeping.
Most hobbyist beekeepers now use the National Hive and most
commercial Beekeepers use the larger and heavier Langstroth
Hive. This is the most popular hive world wide. Other less
popular hives are Commercial and Smith hives.

The essential parts of all hives are:
1.
Floor board and entrance block.
2. Brood chamber.
3. Queen excluder.
4. Super / Honey box.
5. Crown board.
6. Roof.
7. Winter / Reduced entrance block
8. Mouse Guard (winter use only)
Inside
the hive you find two types of frame
9.
Brood frames found in the deeper brood chamber
10. Super frames found in the shallower super or honey
boxes
