Beverley
Beekeepers' Association
The local
Beekeeping Association for East
Yorkshire
Why
Join an Association?
If
you live in East Yorkshire and have already begun keeping
bees or are or are just thinking about it then you really
should join us. Membership of Beverley Beekeepers gives
you:
• A chance to join a community of fellow beekeepers, make
friends and learn from others. We have around 90 members
from all walks of life and numbers are increasing every
year.
• A chance to attend monthly winter meetings where guest
speakers give talks on a huge range of beekeeping and bee
related topics.
• Access to the members area of this website with a range
of useful info, items for sale, contacts and more.
• Third party insurance cover for any claims associated
with your hobby. Cover is for claims up to £2 million by
third parties and includes product liability (someone
chokes on your honey) and injury claims (a neighbour or
passer by is stung and alleges that your bees are
responsible).
• Free “Bee Diseases Insurance” (BDI) for the loss of up to
three hives per member. If you are unlucky enough to have a
colony which gets one of the two brood diseases then often
the ministry inspector will order the bees killed and the
hive parts burned. BDI means you get financial help towards
starting again. Members can pay extra to insure any hives
above three.
• Invitations to summer meetings held at members’ apiaries
where we get a chance to look at other people’s bees and
see how they manage them. Stories are swapped and different
experiences shared. A really good way to pick up tips and
develop your skills.
• A regular newsletter with articles and details of events
and what’s happening in the local and national beekeeping
world.
• Discounts on the prices of jars, wax foundation and hive
treatments through Yorkshire Beekeepers Association.
• Reduced rate subscription to
Beecraft
and
The Beekeepers Quarterly
national magazines.
• Access to our own library of hundreds of basic and
specialist beekeeping books and videos. Our librarian is
available at most winter meetings.
Subscription rates are included in the membership form and
you can pay for the magazines as you join.
