We are having a beekeeping open day at our apiary site at Beverley Parks which is next to Old Hall Farm, off Long Lane near Beverley on Sunday 20th July from 10 to 4.00Click here for map to Beverley Parks Follow the special "bee signs" from Woodmansey, Beverley Minster and the Morrisons roundabout.

There will be a whole range of information all day on what it takes to keep bees and the role they play in our environment. This will include the sale of local honey and other hive products, information on baking and cooking with honey, beeswax candle rolling for children to take a candle home, an exhibition with glassed walled "observation hives" and demonstrations throughout the day of live bees in a controlled bee cage. Visitors will be able to watch a beekeeper open a beehive, find the queen bee and describe the inner workings of the bee colony whilst you watch in safety.

We will also be telling you about the British Beekeepers campaign to get the government to spend more money on research to tackle the new diseases that threaten to wipe out our honeybees and take the honey from your breakfast table. For more information on the campaign go to http://www.britishbee.org.uk/

Experienced beekeepers will be present all day to answer questions and tell you all about the wonderful life of the bee.

Local sculptor Saffron Waghorn from Skipsea, who is also a beekeeper, will be carving a honey bee from wood during the day and visitors will be able to see her work.
