About Us.

Bee on flower

The Beverley Beekeepers' Association is no different from many special interest groups in that we have developed from similarly minded and commonly active people.   The Association is maintained by members in the interest of Beekeepers so we can provide a collective source for sharing information, meeting one another and mutual support.

In forming a community of common interest we provide anyone in East Yorkshire, who has an interest in Honey Bees & their produce, the following benefits,

The opportunities to meet similarly interested people.

Give answers to any questions or problems you encounter.

Access to a group of experienced Beekeepers who will provide the occasionally needed hands on support.     e.g. you may need to move some hives at short notice.

We provide several introductory Beekeeping courses and have recently introduced a 'Winter' course for         people who have recently taken up Beekeeping to supplement the basics knowledge covered in the
    Beginners' courses.

Monthly meetings during the 'quiet' season when we're not all running around tending our Bees.  Normally
from September to March.  More details.

Free Bee Disease Insurance (BDI).  This insurance provides cover against the two notifiable diseases of
    American Foulbrood & European Foulbrood.
Cover for up to two hives is provided as membership of Beverley Beekeepers Association.  Additional hives
can be insured at any time by additional premiums.
Some insurance is recommended.  In the unlikely event of colonies contracting one of the foulbrood
diseases it may be necessary to burn the hive contents.  This is an essential precaution to eliminate the
    spread of disease.

Third party insurance to cover any claims associated with your Beekeeping.  Cover includes product liability
    and injury claims.

Invitations to Summer meetings at other people's apiaries.  Excellent learning opportunities for beginners or
if you'd just like to look inside a hive & get a feel for what an apiary is and how it works.  More details.

Access to our library.  The library contains hundreds of books covering the complete range of Beekeeping
related topics.  The books are usually available to view or borrow at all of the 'Winter' meetings & the
librarian can be contacted any time during the year.

Access to the Members' area of the Beverley Beekeepers Ass. website.  This provides information on the
Library status, a forum for exchanging information, asking questions, posting items/bees for sale or items
wanted etc.   Please note this section is unavailable while the website is restructured.

Beekeeping equipment suppliers occasionally offer discounts to Beekeeping Association members.

Automatic membership of the Yorkshire Beekeepers Association (YBKA).  An annual discounted order for
jars, wax foundation, hive treatment & other sundries is available through the YBKA to Beverley Beekeepers
Ass. members.  A Monthly Newsletter covering the Yorkshire region.More information available on the
    YBKA website.

Automatic membership of the British Beekeepers Association (BBKA).  You will receive a copy of the monthly
BBKA news letter.  More details and general Beekeeping information are available from the BBKA website.

Reduced subscription rates to the magazines, Beecraft & Beekeepers Quarterly.

Spring auction of Beekeeping equipment and possibly Bees.  Prior notice of items under auction.

An organised Swarm collection service via the Swarm Collection Controller.  So if you want to collect swarms
then we have a system to notify you of any within the area you're willing to travel.

A Disease Liaison Officer.  If you suspect or are worried that any of the Bees you care for are suffering from
'something' we have someone you can talk to for advice.

Nosema testing service.  If you suspect a hive is infected with this parasite there is an Association member
who will undertake microscope examination of samples for verification.

Encouraging the public to adopt Bee friendly behaviour, promote the development of gardens and the
general environment to the advantage of Honey Bees and other pollinating insects.  Dissuade people &
organisations from persisting with increasing habitat loss.
